UNDERSTANDING RIB TUBES

What Are RIB Tubes — and Why Choose Hypalon?

A RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) combines a rigid hull with inflatable tubes. These tubes provide buoyancy, stability and protection when coming alongside.

The material commonly known as Hypalon in the boating industry is a durable, rubber-coated fabric. Our material supplier, ORCA, has developed it for marine environments, with high resistance to UV exposure, abrasion and temperature changes.

Fenderline manufactures and fits custom-made replacement Hypalon tubes for RIBs. Whether you refer to the service as RIB tube replacement, collar replacement or retubing, we manufacture the new tubes to fit your boat.

REPAIR OR REPLACE?

When Should You Replace Your RIB Tubes?

Damage or an air leak does not necessarily mean that the entire tube needs replacing. Small, localised areas of damage may be repairable. If the material is worn in several places, or the tubes are in poor condition overall, retubing may be the better option.

Material condition

We assess the overall condition of the material and the extent of the wear. Old or heavily worn fabric can be difficult to restore with isolated repairs.

Extent of the damage

A small, localised area of damage is different from recurring problems or wear affecting several parts of the tube.

Overall assessment

We consider the material’s condition, the extent of the damage and whether repairs are feasible before recommending the most suitable approach.

Is retubing worth it?

If your RIB’s hull is in good condition, new Hypalon tubes made to fit your boat can be an alternative to replacing the whole boat.

From removal to fitting

What’s Included in a RIB Tube or Collar Replacement?

Questions and answers

RIB Tube Replacement & Retubing FAQs

Find answers to common questions about materials, pricing, turnaround times and warranties.

How much does RIB retubing cost?

Fenderline provides a fixed-price quote based on your boat’s length, tube diameter and chosen Hypalon thickness.

Can a damaged RIB tube be repaired?

Small, localised areas of damage can sometimes be repaired. We do not carry out repairs ourselves, but we can refer you to suitable repair specialists. If the material is worn in several places, or the tubes are in poor condition overall, retubing may be a more suitable option.

What materials does Fenderline use?

Fenderline uses ORCA Hypalon, primarily the ORCA 828 and ORCA 866 grades.

How long does RIB retubing take?

The work in our workshop normally takes 1–2 weeks.

How far in advance should I book?

Retubing normally needs to be booked 1–3 months in advance. We recommend contacting Fenderline well before you plan to use your boat.

What warranties are included?

Fenderline provides a two-year workmanship warranty. ORCA provides a five-year material warranty.

Which Hypalon colours can I choose?

We have access to ORCA’s full colour range. If you are unsure which colour to choose, contact us for advice, as some colours may be less suitable in certain situations.

Which Hypalon surface finishes can I choose?

Not every colour is available in every finish. The main options are gloss, Fabric Impression (FI) — a matt, fabric-like surface — and Carbon. The Carbon finish is only available in the thicker ORCA 866 Hypalon.

Is RIB collar replacement the same as retubing?

Yes. RIB collar replacement, tube replacement and retubing generally refer to the same process: removing the existing inflatable tubes or collar and replacing them with a newly manufactured set.
